Ready for a new type of prescription?

Did you know that 10 per cent of all older people over the age of 65 experience loneliness all or most of the time.

Mostly when we talk about prevention in the NHS, we mean reducing smoking, increasing physical activity, obesity problems and alcohol consumption. Here in Wakefield though, we are becoming increasingly interested in the impact that social capital has on improving health.

This month, we talked to Dr Rosemarie Jones, one of our local GPs from Lupset Surgery and Laura Quinn, a health and wellbeing development worked from South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust about social prescribing. We talked about the general health and wellbeing benefits it brings and how it’s already making a difference in Wakefield as part of West Wakefield’s vanguard programme.
